Tell Me the Hand: Poker Coach, by Keen Shift. Last updated 24 September 2026.

The short version. Your hands live on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. Your voice never leaves the device. If you agree, the words you tell the app (a hand, a reason, a read) are sent through our server to TypeSafe so a language model can read them; our server does not keep your words. There are no ads, no tracking, no analytics tools and no account.

Who we are

Keen Shift makes Tell Me the Hand and decides how the data described here is used. Contact: support@keenshift.ai.

What stays on your device

Your hands, verdicts, reasons, drill results, lesson progress and settings are stored on your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud is on, they are also synced through your own private iCloud database, which we cannot read.

When you speak a hand, speech is turned into text on your device. The recording is never saved and never leaves your device.

All the poker math (pot odds, equity, ranges, the verdict and the point where it flips) is worked out on your device.

Text sent to a language model

Some features read what you wrote or said. The app asks before it sends any of your words, and sends none until you agree. If you say no, every feature still works: you can build the hand by tapping, and the app reads what it can on your device. The app does talk to our server for other things, such as checking that it is a genuine copy, your Pro status and your daily limits; none of that includes your words.

What is sent

Only after you agree: the text of a hand or of a whole session you tell (typed, or turned into text on your device), your one-line reason for a decision, what you say about your opponent, and spoken drill answers as text. You see and can edit a hand's text before it is sent.

Who receives it

The text goes through our server to TypeSafe, a company in the United States that makes the Jev language model. TypeSafe works out the hand details and sends them back. TypeSafe acts as our service provider under its Data Processing Addendum, and it promises not to train or fine-tune its models on what we send.

What never leaves your device

Your voice recording, your name, your contacts and your location. The app does not ask for your name, contacts or location at all.

How long it is kept

Our server does not store your words. It keeps the answers the language model sent back for a request (for example, the seats, actions and cards it read from your hand, not your text) for 24 hours, so that if your phone retries a request you get the same answer and are not charged twice. Everything else our server keeps is listed under What our server stores.

TypeSafe's privacy policy says it keeps personal data:

"for as long as reasonably necessary to provide you with the Services, or otherwise in support of our business or commercial purposes."

It names no fixed deletion date. Its customer agreement also lets it keep using the data, with no end date, to produce technical logs and statistics, to check for fraud and abuse, and to meet legal duties. TypeSafe runs its service on Amazon Web Services, Modal, Nebius and CoreWeave, all in the United States. TypeSafe's terms govern what it keeps: privacy policy, customer agreement and data processing addendum.

We send TypeSafe no name, account or install ID with your words, so it cannot tell which requests were yours. You can still write to us and we will pass a deletion request on.

Changing your mind

You can turn this off at any time with "Hand reading by TypeSafe" in Settings › Data & AI. After that, none of your words leave your device: the app reads what it can on your device, or you build the hand by tapping.

Weekly report wording by DeepSeek (subscribers only, off unless you turn it on)

Pro subscribers get a weekly report. By default our own templates write its sentences. If you turn on "Weekly report wording by DeepSeek (counts only)" in Settings › Data & AI, only counts and percentages are sent, such as how many hands you reviewed, how many were mistakes, your most common leak type and your drill accuracy. Your hands, cards and words are never sent. DeepSeek, a company in China, writes the wording from those numbers. DeepSeek's terms let it keep what it receives while our account exists and use it, without identifying anyone, to improve its services; it stores data in China.

If you have also agreed to hand reading by TypeSafe, TypeSafe's model checks that the wording describes your top leak correctly; it sees the wording and the leak's name, never your hands. Our server keeps the finished report for 24 hours so a retry is not charged twice. When DeepSeek wrote the wording, the report says so, says it may contain errors or leave things out, and says to treat it as a guide. The numbers in the report are always worked out on your iPhone.

What our server stores

ItemWhyHow long
An install ID: a random ID, or the key Apple's App Attest creates for this installTo tell installs apart for the limits and to block abuse400 days after the app last connected
Daily usage counters and a daily cost tally for the installTo apply the free and Pro daily limits40 days
Apple's original transaction ID for a subscription, with monthly and weekly Pro tallies and the free-trial tallyTo apply Pro limits and stop one purchase being shared across too many devices400 days
The answers sent back for a request (not your text) and a one-way hash of the requestSo a retry returns the same answer and is charged once24 hours
A keyed hash of your network addressTo limit how many new installs one network can create in a day2 days

Expired records are removed by the database automatically, usually within two days of the time shown. Server logs are kept for 14 days. They never contain the text you send or your network address; installs appear in them only as a keyed hash of the install ID. Our server runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States.

Purchases

Apple handles every purchase. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account. The app sends Apple's signed record of your subscription to our server so the Pro limits apply, and our server checks it with Apple.

No tracking

There are no ads, no advertising IDs, no analytics tools and no third-party code in the app. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we never sell your data or share it for advertising. The only outside companies that receive anything are TypeSafe, and DeepSeek if you turn it on, as described above. This website sets no cookies.

Export or delete your data

Export: Settings › Data & AI › Export my hands saves all your hands as a file you can keep or share.

Delete: Settings › Data & AI › Delete all my data erases the hands on your device and in your iCloud, your limit counters on the device and your settings. There is no account to delete. The records on our server carry no name or email, so we cannot find yours from a message; they expire on the schedule above.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you or ask us to delete it by writing to support@keenshift.ai; we reply within 30 days. Your words are processed in the United States, and weekly report counts in China if you turn that on. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Age

Tell Me the Hand is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change affects what is sent to a language model, the app will ask for your agreement again.
